Parents of teenage girls…what is wrong with you?

A question asked by Melissa: Parents of teenage girls…what is wrong with you?
My husband and our twin 16 year old sons, flew to California with a friend of my husbands and 6 of our sons friends for Spring break…we are moving to California this summer and my husband thought this would be a good time to take our sons friends to see where they are going to live…my husband called the day they got there and said that my sons girlfriend of 3 weeks and one of her girlfriends decided to fly out for spring break to be with the guys…..my son knew nothing about this, it was her surprise…my son was just as surprised as my husband. The girl calls my son and said can you pick us up at the airport, and can we stay with you guys, we have no reservations. My husband had to go to the airport, make arrangements for them to go home, give them money so they could eat….when he called their parents, it was like oh, we thought they were coming out to stay with you….they had never called our home before the girls left, or anything….what if my husband had left them stranded at the airport? what if my husband hadnt paid for them to fly back home? Parents of teenage girls, if your daughter says she is gonna fly across country and stay with her boyfriend…do you not check it out first?

Question by liberalthinktank: would you parents of teenage girls allow your 17 year old to join 2 other 18 year old girls on a 250 mile trip
One of the girls boyfriend attends college at this La. university and she wants my daughter and another friend to ride with her to see him and to show them the town. They will be staying in a hotel room and we’re not comfortable allowing her to go there with two other girls. She is very upset about all this. Do you think I shouldn’t worry so much and let her go?

My chosen answer:

Answer by TruThaiBoxer
Absolutely not! Your daughter seems a little young to be hanging around with college students especially if it is 250 miles away from home. Let me as you this. What if they take your daughter to a frat party and peer pressure her into drinking, doing other drugs, or having sex whether she wants to or not? If that was my daughter she would not be going on that trip. Good luck!

A question asked by LifeIsGrand: Should parents be held responsible when their teenagers commit crimes?
I mostly referring to crimes like shoplifting, truancy, simple assault, vandalism. I already know what people would say if it is a really serious crime like murder or manslaughter. What’s your opinion? Punish the parent AND teenager? Or just the teen?

My chosen answer:

Answer by jezzie1977
Why would you punish the parent? Apparently the child did the crime, not the parent. Unless the parent was telling the child to steal or beat on ppl, then the teenager desided to do these acts on his or her own accord.

Now if the child is doing it because he is negelect, that’s a whole other issue and the parent should be investigated for abuse, not the crime that the child comitted.

Parents of Teenage Boys…?

Question posed by ♥HEARTS 808′s KIDDO♥: Parents of Teenage Boys…?
Are you finding or have you found out in the past that Young Teen Girls (14 and up) are pressuring your Young Sons for Sex? And being Very Bold and Pushy about it? And Getting Angry (seriously) if your Son turns them down. Has anyone had experience with this? I know GIRLS have ALWAYS been Pressured and I taught my Daughters HOW to deal with this…but I think I must have dropped the Ball Somewhere with My Boy….because this is an Issue. What are your Thoughts and Experiences? I’m BLOWN AWAY by this recent Occurence.
~~EXACTLY Carrie…I can’t Imagine my Girls EVER doing this and being so “HOOTCHIE-ISH” (is that a word?) my daughters won’t even ask a boy out…much less DEMAND he have sex with them! What is going on with these girls? No Self-Respect! Erick was taken aback by this girls Boldness and Offers ( he said he really didn’t know her..she was a girl at a Birthday Party he went to over the weekend) he told her to back-off and she got mad…Frightening

as a teenage girl i can say i have not pressured boys for that kind of thing nor have i seen my friends pressure guys for it. but i do know guys feel like they have to do it to “be a man.” just let your son know that he doesn’t have to have sex or do sexual things to be a man. just ask him to be true to himself. i think it’s great that you’re involved with you kids and have an open line of communication. hope you have a happy holiday season.

A question from Okay….: Why do teenagers have trouble talking to their parents about sex?
I have never had trouble asking my parents about sex and I have been open with them since I found out at age 9. I was wondering why teenagers AND parents have trouble discussing it since it is healthy and natural part of life and marriage. I had a question previously asked today because my firends’ parents never did give them the talk. We had 3 years of sex ed and they are still clueless. I just wanted to know why there is a problem about discussing it.
I mean sex in general. Not who they are having it with. I would not have to tell my parents because they know I am waiting until marriage.

My chosen answer:

most people just feel like they’re parents imght get mad if your young or they just feel uncomfortable and just want it to be between them and whoever they had it with. most young girls and boys just think its private and embarrassing to discuss.

Question by Lumina: At what point should parents let teenagers make their own choices?
It seems like some parents let their children exercise their independence, living and learning. Others seem to think that they’re supposed to control their teenager and never let them make decisions.
What do you think?

As children become more mature (not just older), their independence should increase gradually. However, Mom and Dad do have the final say in things until the child is 18 AND out of the house.

Question posed by ℓσи∂σи cιтy ««3: Teenagers: How much allowance do you receive from your parents?
And to parents of teenagers: How much do you give your teenagers?

I don’t get allowance as my mum just gave me money here and there when I needed something desperately, but she’s gonna start giving me some, and I was wondering how much you got.

Please give details like if they pay for anything for you, what do they pay for, and what they give you money for.

Thanks :)
