Question posed by Mary Karr: Is it just normal for teenage girls to just not want to be with their dad?
Is it just normal for teenage girls to just not want to be with their dad? My husband has 14-year old twin girls and they no longer want to visit him. Like most kids, they want his money and gifts still. My parents weren’t divorced, but I do remember not wanting to be around my dad when I was 14. Is this just common? I feel bad for my husband.

There may be nothing quite as difficult – or as frustrating – as getting your child to go to bed on time. But there are as many tactics as there are children, so it is only a matter of discovering what works.

You should be able to put your child to bed and get him or her to stay there. Furthermore, you should be able to make it happen without a ton of pain. Here are some ideas for getting started.

A routine may be your best friend. Beginning especially when your child is young, establish a strict bedtime routine. Then stray from that routine as rarely as possible.

Start your routine and stick to it. Pick a bedtime of eight o’clock (or whatever works for you) and then stick to it. That means getting your kids ready by that point so there is no stress – just a quick march to the bedroom. Also, don’t let yourself get swayed no matter how much your child may protest.

Even as they get older, maintain the bedtime ritual. Make sure all of their tasks are done by a certain time each day, leaving time for the bedtime process to unfurl. For example, if your children have chores, you should get those clear in time for them to brush their teeth.

Waiting to complete such tasks makes it almost impossible to keep the routine and can even have a negative consequence on your child’s ability to perform well. However, getting them out of the way early will give your child very few excuses not to do what you ask and go to bed at a reasonable hour.

Finally, this is one your children may disagree with, but putting a television in a child’s bedroom is a bad idea. The TV is a distraction and kids may find a tendency to flip on the television once you’re out of the door. This could keep them up for hours.

These are workable and proven strategies that come from the foremost child development experts. Taken with a little bit of patience, you should find you have little trouble getting your kids into a routine that they can maintain for the rest of their lives.

Ways To Keep Children Active All Summer

Parents might have encountered problems regarding how to plan activities that their children of big age gap could participate and enjoy together. Some would think it would be impossible to mix these two very different age levels in one activity. There a lot of activities however, that they could participate.

Planning these activities can take some time as the activities of the younger kids will differ than the older ones. If thought-out well enough, child should enjoy themselves and no one should feel left out. To help in the planning, here are some tips for summer activities.

Crafts can be made either outside or inside the house. And this could be a great activity for all ages. What are needed is the complete materials and appropriate instructions in doing it and you can then tell how good , creative and imaginative your children are after they finish their artwork.

Just keep in mind that in making the craft, it all to begin from the instructions given and your children will be the ones responsible in making a good result. You will just be surprised with their finished works.

Another activity that is applicable to different ages are playing games. I guess everyone is familiar of the ordinary and old game, the hide and seek or tag. This is such kind that all the players will enjoy. Since this involves physical activity, it also makes the children active and energized. Parents then can also participate and consider the game as a sort of an exercise for that day.

Give the older children the task of facilitating the summer activities . In this manner, they will develop a sense of responsibility and a feeling of maturity.

Through this activity, parents in one way or another help build up the leadership characteristic of their growing children.

As much as possible, let the older children and the young ones do their respective task if their own. However, do not think that sometimes you can combine both of them in on activity.

Adding a new puppy to your home is very exciting for everyone in the household. In order to have a successful relationship with your new addition, it’s important to start off the right way. Here you will find a few do’s and don’ts on your first weeks with your new pet.

Your need dog needs to know the rules of your home before it gets adjusted to living there. The sooner you set the boundaries for your pet, the better off you will both be since the last thing you want to do is spend time later training and scolding your pet.

The next thing is teaching your dog where his area to “go” will be. A house-broken pet is better than one who isn’t, so make sure that you put some time into this.

An adult dog will learn more quickly, a puppy will take a while to actually break it. Don’t allow your dog to roam the entire home until you are sure he or she is trained. This won’t be easy but the rewards will be great.

Dogs are sensitive and may need time to adapt so allow plenty of time for him to adjust. If it’s a shelter dog, he may take longer to adapt. It may be a good idea to limit visitors and too much activity in the beginning.

Establish who is in charge from the start. Dogs need to know who the leader is. If you allow your pet to run wild, it will be harder to train him.

Don’t over look obedience training! Once you and your new dog are settled, consider one of the following: attend a class together, train your dog yourself or hire someone to teach him obedience.

Your new pet will be happier if well trained. You’ll have a loving, caring companion to spend your time with and you’ll both make each other smile. Start out on the right foot and your pet will behave throughout its entire life. It will be worth it as well!
