Have you noticed ageism in movies has led to oddness?
This week I’ve seen several movies in which people who were cast as parent of teenagers were visibly not much older than the kids. I looked up the stats, and yes, it was true, an actress aged 24 was playing the mother of a 13 year old… the actor playing husband was 23.
I’ve worked around show biz all my life, and I find it downright wierd that the people making the movie didn’t realize how idiotic this is.
Has it really gotten so bad with this psycho age fixation that they could’t find a forty something actor for the appropriate role?
You know, I really feel sorry for Americans. They are living in a strange kind of self-created hell. I think the young are being trained to want to kill off the old. And by old, I think the number is something like 35.

Dont feel too sorry for us. We know reality from the silver screen. It’s true European movies are a lot more life like, especially when it comes to age. We’re still a young country. Give us a little time.
I’ve noticed ageism plenty in movies. But only for the women. Thus, actors like Humphrey Bogart and Harrison Ford in their 50s were paired with 20-something year-old leading ladies, and that’s supposed to be believable.
I’ve also noticed generalizations about all Americans around the internet, including in your post. I’m American and not living in a “self-created hell” nor did I vote for George W. Bush. If you don’t like ageism, then don’t engage in stereotyping yourself.
I agree with you. Our youth fixation and skinny fixation have both gotten out of hand.
I think its truely crap. Our society is completely out of touch with the natural order of things.
Caught some flak on this one by suggesting that Americans are to be pitied, didn’t you? Did you forget? We’re not only ageists over here, we’re more than a little xenophobic. It is a deplorable state of things, no doubt. “We are more to pitied than scorned.” but that doesn’t mean much to most Americans.”We’s been hypnotized , Mr. Peepers.” And yes, this obsession with youth cultures is the biggest threat to the older generation than anything I can think of.
More like Logans Run everyday.
