Please state whether you are a teenager or an adult.

No, I’m not asking this so I can parent my teens. I’m just curious what your opinions are.

I’m an adult. Let them sleep as long as they want, but start re-adjusting them a week or so before school starts.

  7. By AFLAAAAK on Dec 9, 2009 | Reply

As for now, let them get it out of their system, and then about a month before school is back in session, start bringing bedtime back down to normal levels.

I am the parent of a teenager (13). He still needs to get up at a decent hour to be a productive human being. I think he should get up by 10am. Go to bed by 11pm. I still have to work!!!

Unless they stay up too late at night getting into trouble, i think you should let them sleep as long as they want. its their summer vacation, their break from going to school the past 9 months, getting up at the ***** of dawn 5 days a week.

i am a teenager and i would say that they should need to be in bed by at least 12 almost every night and no later than 3 on an ocassion but the should be allowed to sleep in until about noon if they want—– they need to be able to get in enough sleep.

I really don’t have a time that I wake her up but she usually wakes up by 10 am. I don’t think that is bad. If she has a friend over and they stay up late I let them sleep as long as they need to.

  35. By lovemybaby on Jan 30, 2010 | Reply

I’m an adult. I would say 11:30am. You don’t want to help them to become lazy by allowing them to sleep well into the afternoon. It should also depend on the tasks you give them for the day. I recall sleeping until about noon in the summer, or waking early, then napping again shortly after, and I’m a decent person with good morals and a good job, but it wasn’t really necessary for me to sleep that long. Boredom made me sleep long. Maybe you could compromise and allow them to sleep later on the weekends in the summer.

I am an adult in fifties. When you should wake him up depends on your habits. When you and all your family members finish off your routine and go to sleep, you have to allow eight and a half hours of sleep for him and then only you should wake him up. Eight hours of sleep is necessary for your teenager offspring and a half hour before that for indulging in onanism.

He has responsibilities to meet….but it is nice to have that extra little peice and quiet when he is not being an @ss to his brothers and sister!

Since chores need to be done early, ’round here everyone is up by 6:30 at the latest. If they need more sleep, they can turn in earlier at night. No since burning daylight.

  39. By ♥Carmela♥ on Feb 6, 2010 | Reply

as long as they want. I remember when i was a teen, I loved the freedom that summer brought, it’s the only time in their lives when they can be free, without bills, responsibilities or homework.

Anyone over 15 should have a job (unless they are involved in many extra curricular activities), so they should be able to sleep until they need to go to work, or do house hold chores, go to a day camp for sports or whatever it is they constructively fill their time with.

It should be more important what time they get to bed which determines the time they’d get up.

Summers are a great break for kids but wasting time is never a good idea. I feel that summers are to pursue other things like going to camp, jobs, sports, church activities, etc….

Also, as a behavior specialist: the disruption of regular sleep patterns has an effect on personality and productivity so it is best to keep kids on a fairly regular sleep cycle.

    I’m an adult.

    Answer to question:
As a parent, I always allowed my son to sleep as late as he wanted, unless we had plans. Looking back, I should have made him get a summer job and be up and out the door early. Now he is 22 and I have the unpleasant task of throwing him out of the nest this weekend – if he does not tell me he has a full time job by Friday, he has to move out. I hate to do it, but he won’t learn anything if I let him stay.

(for the record: He has a part time job, but it is not enough hours to pay his share of the bills. That was the agreement we made, he has to pay a 3rd of the household bills if he wants to live at home.)

As an adult, I think it all depends on the teenager and his/her behavior (academically, following home/school rules, etc.) during the school year.

For the teenager (s) who took care of business during the school year, I would allow them to wake up whenever they chose to…no set time to wake up.

Now, for the teenager (s) who didn’t take care of business during the school year or caused problems, I would wake them up between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Reason being, I would have some special chore / job for them to take on…teach them how to be more responsible. However, I would not hinder their summer fun for more then a couple of hours.

    Be blessed. ♥

adult- i would let them sleep as late as they wanted, provided they kept up and maintained their other responsibilities. if they have a summer job, they are responsible to that. they still have responsibility to self and others at home. as long as those are being met, they can sleep as late as they want.

My teens always wanted to stay up really late at night and sleep in until noon in the summer. All the more reason to get them up and doing what needs to be done. Amid a lot of grumbling, I might add. ;-)

I think they should be able to stay up somewhere from 10:30-11:30, and sleep in until 9:30.
