Hollister is a boring cow-town in the central valley.
Hollister brand clothing markets itself as hip, Southern California surf culture wear.
But the town of Hollister is not in Southern California. It is in northern California. And it is not on the coast so there is no beach.
I just think it’s funny that so many teenagers across the US proudly wear their HOLLISTER clothes thinking they’re so trendy and hip, when in reality, every time I see them, I just think of the cow town, and that they’re emulating a cow town.
It’s hilarious. People are so ignorant. They will subscribe to any latest trend just to follow the crowd, without any idea what it actually is.
And I can’t figure out why Abercrombie & FIch (Hollister’s parent company) would choose Hollister as the name for their trendy teenage clothes. They sure are pulling the wool over those teenagers’ eyes.
I bet if I did a survey of all the teenagers wearing Hollister clothes, not one would know where Hollister actually is.
Alright…I didn’t know about Hollister Ranch in Santa Barbara County.
That makes more sense, since it is on the coast.
However, Hollister Ranch is still a RANCH (98% of the land is preserved in an agricultural trust and will never be developed)- which means it is still associated with cows and cowboys and hicks.
So I think my point still applies, that it is funny that all these trend-following middle school and high school kids wear clothes that are named after a cattle ranch. If they knew that, I wonder if they would still think they were so cool.
And to those of you kids who think they are “cute”, do you really think they are worth the money?Thin about it: Some young woman, probably the same age as you, got paid a few cents an hour to make that shirt in a sweatshop in the third world. Then you pay a price that is inflated like 100 times. Guess who keeps the profit? The corporation!
