My son is 15 and we have just started to let him date this summer. He is only allowed to date girls who are his age or a year young. I feel the difference between a 15 year old and 17 (or 13 year old) year old even though its small age gap is a lot. Its not going to be anything when one is in their 20’s or even late teens (17 +) but at those ages i feel its diffrent. A 14 year old and 17 year are truly at diffrent life stages.

My daughters are not teenagers yet but they will not be permitted to date at 14, nor will my other sons. Even if I allowed them to date at that age there is no way they would be dating a 17 year old. They should consider themselves lucky I did not have my first date until I was 17.

I am a mother of 2 teenagers; my son is 17 and my daughter is 13. I personally think you are way too young to be dating anyone at this point. If your mom allows it, then I would say it would be better to find someone closer to your age.
He may be very nice guy and have good intensions; however in ALL relationships there comes a time when sex is an issue and temptation presents itself. It is hard to resist those types of feelings (most adult women give in to bad sexual decisions), so how hard to you think it would be for you?
I can understand his position too; because if your mom finds out she can charge him with a criminal offense. I would explain to your mom, but I would only see him in-group settings. Like meeting with friends at the mall or movies. It maybe a little easier letting you see this guy if you are not put in a situation that could cause her to be concern. It will also take pressure off of you should those intimate feelings come up.

Im not a parent of a teenager. Im 17 years old myself. Personally i would be extremely surprised if he was willing to wait 2 years for sex. Also 17 and 14 year olds are at a different stage in life. And being 17 myself I would never even think about going out with a 14 year old guy because i would think he was far too young.

but if you think it can work then you'll need to speak to your parents. If you tell your parents they will be glad that you are mature enough to talk to them. speak to them in a calm environment when no one is stressed out. and to earn their respect you need to be responsible. so that means no shouting and falling out with them because thats childish. be adult about it and you'll be given respect.

I'm sorry, but I think there is too big of an age difference here. It is only 3 years, which doesn't mean much when you're 23 and 26, but it means a LOT between 14-17.

I think you should tell your mother, but don't be surprised if she does not allow this relationship. In her shoes, I would be very concerned for safety, including pressure to have sex. I am not a prude, but there are some definite concerns here.

In this case, I would advise you to look closer to your age. I don't let my 15 year old son date 17-18 year old girls either.

sorry, im not yet a parent of a teenager, but i was a teenager recently, and i also had cool parents.

you do need to talk with your mom. just explain to her that you really like this boy, and that HE wants to make sure your parents are ok with you dating him. He is taking the responsible road here, and so should you. promise your mom you'll wait to have sex till you're 16. (unless youve already done that, 16 is a good age) and keep said promise.

if you have a good relationship with your parents, and have an honest conversation with them, telling them what you like about this boy, then they should be fine with it. hes not over 18, and its only a 3 year difference anyway.

This kid has to be careful because in some states, any physical contact with you could land him in jail! Then he would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life!! YOu really need to date someone your own age, or wait till you are at leat 16 to date this guy.

for me and my daughters. 14 years old is too young to be dating.
Dating a 17 year old is a big no no. 17 year olds and 14 year olds are on a way different plain. Just because he hasn't brought up sex doesn't mean he isn't thinking about it.

i would encourage my daughter to talk to me and i would be very happy when she did,but she isn't allowed to date at 14.
