They shouldn't be given ALL the newest electronics. Personally I think it is a waste of money. What will you do with them when a new phone comes out? or a new ipod? or a new console. I think the phones are ok and the ipods because as teens they need to be occupied and music is a good think, and teenagers are active so they won't be at home 24 hours of the day.

It is nice to be privalleged like that, but what about others who aren't. I think all those items are just a way to keep the parents from having to "deal" with them. If they are given everything they want they will never know the true value of it. And what about when they are out on their own, they will have to work for things. Mommy and daddy won't always be around to give you all the "toys" that you want or the money that you need.

It's not really a mistake per say, but you should limit how much and how often they get these new electronics...

If they earn it and their parents can afford it, why not? It is the people that demand something for nothing that are the problem.

"Should teenagers be given all of the newest electronics?" IF they earn them. My daughter paid for her own computer, her own stereo. I did have her on my phone plan for awhile (family plan) but she racked up over $300.00 worth of charges so I took the phone away. Later on she got her own plan. I don't beleive in allowing a child constant access to such things as they tend to lead to wide ***** and over extended bellies (obesity) and a lack of intelligence as far as common sense and using one's own imagination goes.

I don't think that it is a problem just so long as like you say, they are "mature young adults." They do need to understand the value of money and working hard though. My parent got me some nice things, they also made me work for some of the stuff I wanted. This actually made me appreciate the item even more. Plus, it helped me understand what it takes to get things that I want/need.

Not at all. If you can afford it, I think there is nothing wrong with buying kids expensive toys. But you are right that it is not needed. As long as it doesn't hurt them either (e.g. spending 8 hours a day in front of the play station, crowding out the time for home work), I don't see the problem.

Of course, worth thinking about whether they would be stronger if they learned to earn their own money. They are approaching an age where I personally think that it doesn't hurt to have a job.
